Usually kpop dances are strongly divided and differentiated by gender: girl groups with sexy, feminine, girly, cute choreography and boy groups with strong masculine fast cool choreography. But Taemin's move has it's own color. It's feminine yet masculine it's pretty much genderless but strong. It's unique. It's not a trend (or maybe not yet) but it sure is different. It's new. You can hardly see the same color in kpop. It's a new color. It's Lee Taemin.

The ultimate clapback for the ppl that called him a 'girl' back in the day. Taemin always had the reputation of being 'prettier than a girl' and was always put in dresses. Now he's using that rep that he was always embarrassed by to his advantage. If that's not inspirational, I don't know what is!

I really like that the choreo doesn't have a specific gender assigned to it, especially since I love to learn Kpop dances from girl groups and boy groups. Sometimes I have a hard time with boy group dances because it's those types of choreographies that only guys can do because of how masculine it looks and it would look weird for a girl like me to learn a dance like that. Taemin made a dance that both genders could do and it's amazing because there's not the struggle of thinking "this looks too masculine for me to do" or "this is too feminine for me to do". It's right in the middle :D There's finally a choreography that doesn't distinguish gender :) Taemin you are truly a god💕

I'm just gon talk about this dance setup real quick By placing him in the center of all these sexy beautiful women, he's in super sharp contrast that highlights him and only him. But instead of him dominating the girls thematically, he's doing the exact same choreo as them! So what we usually perceive as sexualizing the female backup dancers is also sexualizing Taemin, which is the whole point, and it works REALLY well!!!! The girls in their outfits and facials and grace really amp up the sexiness of the song and it all pours down on Taemin in the center, and he brings it even higher with his own movements. Also what's super interesting (at least to me) is the structure of beauty and sex appeal is so different between men and women. Like a socially beautiful woman's form has a completely different shape and highlights from a man's. Look at that contrast between Tae's muscled arms and the curves on those girls. But they're doing the same choreo!! What is already intense in the backup dancers' vibe is made even more so for Taemin by contrasting the two aesthetics in the same frames of movement. It makes them equals, but at the same time elevates him in ways we usually don't see in kpop dance. (oops this was long but ugh i am in L O V E with this dance conceptttttttt)

This is a long rant sorry. I was a little unsure when I first listened and watched the music video, but I gotta say I like this release a lot. One of the things that I really like about Shinee, Taemin, and Jonghyun's music is that they are not afraid to take chances. So many musical artists around the world (not just in the USA or South Korea) tend to get too caught up in musical trends and so many artists sound extremely similar. Or artists get stuck in a formulaic lyric, music video, dance, or music composition style. And way too many artists and their labels for that matter get way too scared to try something different because they have to make money. Artists like Shinee, Taemin, Jonghyun, and etc are not scared at all of pushing boundaries and trying new things. The thing about this mv that is really interesting visually is that both Taemin and the women dancers are pushing the boundaries about what masculine and feminine sexuality are. Musically this is an interesting piece and, I am not going to lie, I am so happy that I am not listening to another trap inspired song. I love hip hop, but after a while trap music can sound a bit recycled. While this video has a high fashion feel, its almost bare, primitative, and minimalistict (I think I spelled that wrong) and that is the beauty of it. To a degree its almost as if Taemin is stripping away that really nicely packaged and bubbly Shinee exterior and something new is being presented and I like it. Now that I think about it both Taemin's and Jonghyun's releases tend to have a raw edge to them that isn't seen as often in Shinee's music. And there is beauty in music like that, because even though it tests the limits just slightly, it still tries to push boundaries and that is awesome. Honestly this single might end up being my favorite kpop release of 2017. And I really like kpop lol. And this is holding me over until another Shinee release.

NoW lemme tell you a lil sth. Taemin is the best goddamn dancer in the kpop industry right now period. There is no such thing as “masculine” dance or “feminine” dance for him cause dance is an art and he treats it as such meaning he’ll never distinguish between the two and say he’s not gonna do it because it makes him look “gay”. His body is lean, he has the looks of a porcelain doll and he can literally seduce you with those hip movements no matter if they’re androgynous or not. When Taemin is solo he always pushes the boundaries of how much you can cross that invisible line of looking “too sth” with dance, clothing and singing. Jonghyun said taemin is much more masculine than we give him credit for. But as a PERSON. As an ARTIST, he’ll always be on the androgynous side just because of the way he handles his art.

Can we appreciate how healthy and normal are the girls on the back ! Seriously they are slaying and they aren't as skinny as most of Kpop idols, they are sinewy , and K-pop should promoting more brawny girls than petite or almost anorexic girls. I am glad SM promote those healthy girls here ! :)

I used to listen to kpop, I was actually quite a big fan (2009-2015). Clearly, I don’t anymore, but this popped up in my suggestions and because it was TAEMIN, I knew I had to watch. In short, this is androgynous and artistic and beautiful. If kpop is like this now, I definitely would start listening again.

I love this version, where you really get to see the choreography shine. It doesn't cut between the various scenes and aesthetics as frantically (or beautifully) as the main music video. It really lets you see each move. BUT the main thing I miss from the main video are the closeups. There are so many great stares, eye contact and closeups of Taemin's face in the original that really bring the intensity. I'm just glad that there are so many different versions to really showcase the talent.

This song is the reason why I couldn't help myself but to fall for 'Artist Taemin'. If you are a trained dancer or have interest in dancing then you will understand when I say that this is one of the best example of why Teamin is called a Graceful Performer. The most important & difficult part in dancing is control over your movements specially the subtle once. And what he is doing here is just epitomy of grace. Shoutout to the choreographer as well for coming with this mind-blowing theme. It'll really take time for me to fall in deep love with any other choreo the same way that I have fallen for this.

I think why the dance look unique is because he dance more fluidly rather than sharply, while most man dancer tend to be praise for sharper move rather than fluid which make this dance kind of unusual. It give an androgynous impression which make the dance feels feminine or masculine or both depending on your interpretation 😃

I think the thing I love the most about this performance video, other than the obviously amazing eye contact and expressions, is that the way Taemin carries out the moves. It's so careful and controlled that he's able to make it appear effortless. It's that extra attention to the movements in the more sensual bits, and the controlled power given to his movements in the more energetic portions that really makes him stand out rather than blend in with his female dance crew. Absolutely lovely.

He's been my ultimate bias since the first day I got into K-Pop back in 2011 and it's such an honor to have been able to witness his growth and many achievements musically wise. His vocals and stage presence have improved so much and even when I think it can't get any better, it actually does. His almost-10-years of experience in the industry definitely show in his songs, style and performances. And although what he releases stays in the already popular 'EDM pop' music, his voice and his versatile dancing abilities make him stand out in a way no other has achieved. He's truly mesmerizing. ♡
