Its not that she's 'basic', its that there seems to be a lot of emotion happening within the video, with Taemin's performance and the graphics, and she just seems kinda....there. A bit awkward. Her facial expressions are kinda off beat.

Then say that instead. If you scroll down you can see a comment (unless it's been deleted) with around 80/90 likes that said something like, 'Where does SM get all these basic white girls from?', which even had comments that specifically said, 'ikr she's so ugly'. You can talk about her performance or her facial expressions or how awkward she was in the video, because that's something that she has control over and if she has bad acting then it's her own fault. What I'm talking about are the people that are just judging her by her appearance, something she can't change (and shouldn't want to because she's beautiful) and insulting her like she's not an actual human being who has feelings.

In Japan indie bands, R&B / Soul songwriters and singers are much more praised than the idols (in most cases). While in Korea is pretty much all the other way. In Japan their "idols" don't really train like Korean idols. There's a bunch of things in which they are different.

Nomad Tea some people just fail to see what a gem Taemin is because they're so fixated on youtube views and high album sales but in my opinion, all of that is superficial. what i find invaluable is his talent and his notable progression from an idol to an artist. i still can't find a kpop idol who improved like taemin, much less from SM.

I can't tell outside SM ( as we don't have enough receipts to confirm anything )but if we limit ourselves to SM's context, we can safely say that Taemin , being the round artist that he is , should be considered number one male idol in SM.He's the only one who , whenever I watch him perform , I feel like he's got a style on his own. For most SM groups/idols , I feel like their comebacks seem to be completely different each time, their discography is TOO colorful that it makes you feel like you're listening to 133456 groups at once and it's annoying. It's like they don't really have an artistic persona they just follow trends or try to abide by the company's general concept for the year ( this is why I don't blame or shit talk "company stans" , they're not delusional, they're actually the most sane people out there lol , they're stanning SM because the company does indeed have a style whose elements are always present in their groups work ) . That's where Taemin stands out in my eyes : Despite the fact that SM's touch seems to always be there, Taemin manages to make the song his own, to the point that , even when an SM anti ( like myself , I admit it I don't like SM as a company ) , surrender and appreciate the work nonetheless, because he's got that thing that makes me believe that , in his case, it's not only about training or the type of vocals, it's about the sensitivity, his personality.( I'm not sure if I can describe it well but , he seems sensitive, but edgy and mysterious and the same time.... Idk) Of course there are some exceptions besides Taemin, like, Kyuhyun for example, I think he has a lot of personality in his work. But strangely, those are NOT as hyped as other idols who have nothing but the brand's name .

I actually feel Taemin fits SM's style the most. He is the prototype (original standard) k-pop idol. But as musically I feel SHINee as a whole are more daring than most SM idols, and they as a whole seem to have more control over what they release than anyone else. Taemin is a performer, he leaves your eyes and ears satisfied. He's got great heaps of talent and a good ear for music. I hope people give him a chance before getting on the hate bandwagon. Also, this song is under UMJ, not SM so maybe that why you felt the difference. Japanese Taemin seems more manga like than Korean Taemin. Also I think you should check out Jonghyun, his work tend to have ton of personality.

taemin is great. taemin already gained many recognitions esp. in korea and japan. mostly korean idol praises his performances, not only idol but korean artists. he did won many awards (eventhough award nowadays not having a deal anymore with a truly talents), soon he will be having his own concert in japan with large audiences. his popularity is beyond the capability of youtube showing off its views or something else. the world keep changing. like uknow yunho from tvxq, maybe he didnt gained a hundred millions views on youtube or else, but even almost 100% both korean and japanese people knowing him, so did worldwide.
