EmilyNightshade 에밀리 Zang Liyin / Jang Riin is SM's chinese soloist (the female singer). And her korean is not bad at all. She used to be given great song, but not much promoted. Typical of SM. Too bad.. She's such an amazing singer, not losing to any SM's lead vocalist

All versions get me emotional, but I personally prefer Korean version the most. There’s just something about Taeyeon and Jonghyun’s vocals that give the song so much more emotion.

Zhang li yin is so underrated, girl has angelic voice it amazes me how her voice alone can convey so much emotion when she sings. sm should be heavily promoting an artist with a voice like that..i bet it would've been a different case if she's in another company who can nurture her talent since sm is focusing more in producing idol groups

Chen is so awesome! Considering the fact that he's not Chinese, and he doesn't really know Mandarin, yet he's able to sing a Chinese song (and his pronunciations are pretty accurate considering the fact that he doesn't know Chinese really well)! I think he didnt get the recognition he deserve from international fans basically exo fandom ,but inside korea well charts shows how , he has listeners apart from fandom ,even only few exo songs has exceeded number of unique listeners than his solo debut .

Since Zhang Li-yin is a veteran singer (she debuted in 2006), I think that she is able to fit with Chen's usually very strong voice nicely. This is my favorite version of 'Breath' -- and it's pretty much because of Zhang Li-yin. She's such a nice vocalist and able to do stunning duets with a rookie like Chen. Either way, SM The Ballad, fighting!

Chinese version is more emotional than Korean and Japanese. I watched Chinese version performance and tears fell again. I agree that their voices are so harmonious and they also express the emotion of the song very well, too. This is why Chinese version can touch my heart and make my tears fall.

Agree, added the fact that I'm chinese which makes it even more heartbreaking. They make it sound like it's their own song, not anyone else's. It's the same song as the other versions just in a different language but I always find that there's just so much more emotions in the chinese version. Even now aft so many years I still miss this song so much. Rlly wish there was more sm the ballad songs.

I just watched a live performance of this on SBS MTV The Show and at the beginning, Chen fans did fanchants for him. I was happy but also a little sad because I thought they would only just do it for him. But then it was Liyin's part and they also did a fanchant for Liyin. It made me :'). Chen fans support Liyin :'). I think she is gaining a lot of new fans through these promotions, myself included. She's the sweetest person, and sings like angel. Really matches with Chen.

Okay I admit that I am Chen biased but I think this version was the best because Zhang Li Yin's voice built up throughout the song perfectly and also the Chinese language just sounds prettier and more emotional and suits ballads best. Chen was great and his voice blended with hers better than the other duos in my opinion.

Chen's part are full of longing ,regret, pain, passion .I love how female part is intepret by Zhang Yi Lin she sometimes very softly sings specially phrases regarding caringness for her lover even after break up ,someparts very powerful the regret,longing . The lyrics are different in male female solo parts that emotional delivery is outstanding .

A lot of people asks me [especially those who are older than me] why I listen to kpop [particularly and ALWAYS, EXO songs] even though I don't understand the the lyrics at all. I would just shrug it off because I am not really good in verbal stuffs especially on things where I have to defend myself. But really, I don't have to understand the lyrics to know a good song. This is far better than songs with language I could understand. When I first listen to this song, I SWEAR, I was tearing up and I felt really sad. Perhaps it has something to do with how the singers sang it. This is also what happened when I listened to EXO's Miracles in December and Baby Don't Cry. There's soul, passion, heart and emotion. This is SM. :) Fighting!

Out of all the three, I think this is really the best version. Not being biased or anything, but I think even if I don't stan EXO and I was made to choose between the three versions, this is what I will choose. I just think that in the Korean version, Jonghyun and Taeyeon's voice doesn't blend well that good.. I felt that for a song so mellow they both have very strong and powerful vocals that the balance is gone. While in the Japanese version both Changmin and Krystal have very soft voices and it's too soft for my taste. But in here, they blended it well really well. Chen has a powerful voice and LiYin's voice is so soft... but man, when they hit that bridge in the last part... i just felt the goosebumps. It's like a tidal wave, and the chemistry of their voices is so amazing... I hope they collaborate more.. :))

I think it's because Chinese is a really flowly language, it just suits it's best... The Japanese version is great but the language is very consonanty if you know what I mean so the song doesn't flow as nicely

Chen look more handsome in this vid (kekeke). both of them have such a great voice their voice fit to each other in this song. Chinese song is more emotional then Japan and Korean. I really like Chinese song more then Japan and Korean. I don't say that the 2 other language is not good, is good actually but I like Chinese version more.

If you say chen's Chinese is not good, compare mama with this. He improved lots! Although I admit I can't really figure out some words but at least most of the words can be understandable. It's really sad hearing bad comments about Chen! He is really a good singer! Those who wished zhoumi is the one singing this, his voice does not match liyin's voice as well as chen's! Guys,give Chen a chance! Don't just think that a korean can't speak good Chinese :(

Yes. This is the best version. SM The Ballad is not the matter of who owns the most beautiful voice, but who can sing the song with passion and deep feeling. At first, I thought there must be something wrong with this song, why Taeyeon (who is one of my fav vocalist in SM) cannot even sing the song deeply .. and then I was like ... 'okay... it's a boring song'. However .....these two blends very well, their voices got a serious chemistry and ... this is the only version which make me wanna cry :'D I almost cannot believe,.. Li Yin and Chen have a very good interpretation about the songs, they put the right emotion.

This is my favorite Breath version out of the three. Chen and Li Yin's voice just MATCH, they flow together effortlessly as though they were meant to be heard together. I have heard the other two versions and this is the best one in my opinion. They have good chemistry, they really do. I hope for another collaboration with these two. As others have said, Chen's pronunciation is off because he's not a native speaker of the language. But I think the delivery and emotion of the song made up for that. As for not picking a native speaker: maybe they didn't have the range the song needed. Chen has a very wide vocal range. Also, Liyin and Chen's voices harmonized almost flawlessly. It was a great pleasure to hear from such phenomenal vocals :) The emotional depth this version brought was deeper than the others in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this version :) Looking forward to what they have in store for both of them in the future :)

I think this is the best version of all 3. Chen and Zhang Li Yin's voices blend together perfectly without one outshining the other (unlike the other 2). Their emotions are portrayed really well and those high notes were hit perfectly. All in all it's a beautiful song but I just have to point out: WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST PULL CHANGMIN TOWARDS THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INSTEAD?! She obviously had enough time to do so if she managed to push him out of the way. And Changmin also obviously saw the car so why didn't he just step forwards or backwards?! Anyway, besides the very interesting MV, song is gorgeous~!!

I remember when this was first released, this song really pulled on my heart strings and it still does omg. Chen and Liyin's vocals together are godly tbh, plus they do a really good job of building up the intensity of the song (Liyin esp, she's SO gifted and knows what she's doing). This is def my fav version, with Japanese in 2nd and Korean last.

The best version of breath in my opinion. This pair has give and take. Both of them can sing so well and I can feel the emotion while I'm listening to the song. None of them is struggling the notes.

I think a lot of people are just hating on invalid reasons. Yes, Chen is Korean and his Chinese pronunciation can be off but from debut till now, it has improved by leaps and bounds. I'm Chinese and it is not a easy language to learn. Singing duets has to have a certain compatibility. luhan has a very soft voice and LiYin's voice would've overpowered his, not to mention there are ranges and pitches that Chen can reach that Luhan may not be able to reach. Just enjoy the song.

Sorry Jonghyun and Taeyeon but... this version seems a lot better O.O Chen passes so much emotion... and this girl has such a powerful voice... Instead,I think when JongYeon sings... seems common,because they had already sung similar songs. Changmin's history is,still,the best of the entire MV XD So lovely...

Im a Sone but I think I have the same opinion with you in some points :( It seems like Tae's voice and Jonghyun's dont match and blend in together in the first time I hear, however I still love all three versions of this song cause after several times hearing them, I realized that each version have its own beauty so no need to compare them

I know that all the versions have their own color. But people has one favorite color. And I have one favorite version (the japanese one,maybe because Changmin is singing and acting and he could passes all the emotions). So,we have to compare the versions in our own opinion,you know? I'm a critic person,so,I'll always look in a critical way to the things... especially dramas,songs and MVs...(I'm a SONE too! And I totally love Taeyeon's voice. But... the korean version just didn't work).

I personally think this version is the best of 3. Chen's Chinese has improved a lot and Liyin she deserves more attention and opportunities since these years she has been 'ignored' by SM company in spite of the fact that her voice can get really stand out from those vocals in SM.

I am glad a lot of you guys took your time to listen to breath's 3 diff.versions, that way all of you were able to compare the best among them. I am saying this objectively, not to ruin or put the artists behind this ballad down but as a person who just loves listening to music whatever genre or language it may be because music transcends any language, culture or race. I just want to appreciate the effort and hard work chen and li yin put into giving us the best ballad duet interpretation of breath. I really love their vocal chemistry. I hope they will have more duets in the future. Saranghaeyo, wa ai ni chen and li yin! Thanks for your soulful rendition

I usually don't listen to mandarin songs, since I'm so used to korean ones... But honestly, this version makes me feel so many emotions just hearing their voices together! I personally think it's the best version out of the three ;-; absolutely beautiful

the voices match so beautifully that i can't believe that this version has the least views. chen is so beautiful here and liyin is really really pretty. ;-; and this song contains so much emotions that i wanna cry even though i never dated before T^T i hope more exotics, when they hear this song, will also become liyins fans, chocolate :)
