I notice that Taeyeon always closes her eyes when she sings ballad. She has her way, her own style as a singer. The magical thing I feel after hearing this is although Taeyeon didn't even look at Jonghyun for once while Jonghyun was always looking at her during the performance, I still can feel the song. I just can feel it. I don't know how to express this, just, they sang with their own heart, they gave their feeling into the song so maybe the performance was a bit weird (because there wasn't no eyes-contact between them), but I still can feel it. And one more thing, Jonghyun doesn't "struggle with" the song like someone said LOL :)) That's his style, always move his. Watch SHINee's performances or Weekly Idol then you will understand why. taeyeon was trying to concentrate on singing all the correct notes for this particular song, that's why she sang it note perfect. It sometimes help to sing with your eyes close because it allows you to focus on the song more rather than everything that's around you. and for the earpiece, there was definitely something wrong with it, whether it was too loud or too quite for her to hear herself through it.

Every singer is entitled to her own unique style. One would be a fool if one looks at the singer with narrow eyes just because the singer does not fulfill the desires that person has for the singer. Taeyeon, for example, sings with her eyes closed because she wants to feel at one with her song and because she wants to connect with the song. Think of it as mediating and being at peace with the song. It just goes to show much how she enjoys singing and how much emotions she put into the song. If you see her as being "dead" and "expressionless", then all I can say is how shallow you can be because you only look at the surface and fail to look beneath.

For me, I like it.... Their voices mesh well... Jong Hyun's strong vocals with Tae Yeon's soft voice....

And those people saying Jjong's voice doesn't suit ballads need to get their ears checked. He sounded wonderful and his voice is one of the best in all k-pop. Stay pressed.

Whenever Taeyeon sings a ballad song, she USUALLY closes her eyes. You guys can check her other performance "Set me free", she closes her eyes all the performance. That's just how she puts her emotion into each song she sings.
